Sermon Notes for Teach Us To Pray - Part 3 (Luke 11:5-13) (9/27/2009)

Week of September 27

Small Group Questions

1.     Does your life reflect the influence of your Heavenly Father on you? (See Acts 17:24-31) Are you allowing God to be your Father? Is it easy to see yourself as a child? (See Psalm 103:13-14) By what means does God effectively parent? (See Proverbs 3:11-12)

2.     Why does Jesus instruct us to pray “hallowed be your name?” What’s significant about a name biblically? What makes God’s name hallowed or holy? Why does He instruct us to pray “your kingdom come?” What is God’s kingdom? What does it mean for God’s kingdom to come? Does this just mean the end of the age or is it unfolding now?

3.     Why are we instructed to pray for our daily bread? Why not daily dessert? What is daily bread? Do you possess more than your daily bread? Take a moment to reflect on God’s blessing in your life and thank Him for His sustenance (and also for the blessings He has given beyond just our daily needs). (See Matthew 6:25-34)

4.     When you pray, do you pray with the intensity of someone willing to shamelessly beat on the doors of God’s kingdom? If you don’t pray like this, why not? Are you afraid God will not listen to your prayer? Are you afraid He doesn’t want to answer? Are you afraid He can’t?
