Sermon Notes for Living in the Light (Luke 11:33-36) (10/18/2009)

Week of October 18

Small Group Questions

1.     Are you hiding your light in memories of the past and don’t feel His light is as relevant for you in the world today? Does your life and do your actions and faith reflect a dynamic, Spirit-filled life today?

2.     Luke 11:33 says, “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden.” The ESV says, “puts it in a cellar.” What does Jesus mean by this statement? Philippians 2:14-15 says, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.” Are you shining like a light in “your world” only or are you being a light in “the world?”

3.     Name three places where you are currently being a light. Could serving in the upcoming Harvest Party at church be a way for you to serve others outside of your normal world?

4.     A healthy eye is one that can adjust to the light coming in. An unhealthy eye is unable to adjust to incoming light and only sees distorted, dark images if anything at all. Is your soul able to adjust to take in the light that God shines on you? The light doesn’t change, but discuss your ability to receive the light.
