Week of November 22

Small Group Questions

1.     There are those in our culture who feel family is more important than anything. Jesus’ words about dividing families may seem harsh, but is it possible that people might make an idol out of their family? When have you made an idol out of another person?

2.     In the passage, Jesus is telling us that an awareness of the final judgment needs to be at the forefront of our thinking. How would an increased awareness of the judgment impact your life?

3.     How have you experienced the refining fire of God’s judgment? What comfort do you find in God’s Word? (Hint: See James 1:2-4.)

4.     How might a proper understanding of God’s judgment help you practically? For example, how would it impact your ability to forgive others? How would it help you deal with trials and tribulations in this world?

5.     There is a lot of talk lately about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world in 2012. How could you use this topic as an opportunity to discuss the Gospel and the blessed hope that awaits believers in Christ?
